Vietnam Takes Steps to Train Engineers and Experts in Digital Transformation and Semiconductor Manufacturing

During a monthly government meeting on August 5th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned four ministries – the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Ministry of Science and Technology – to create a training plan to develop between 30,000 and 50,000 engineers and 100 experts in digital transformation and semiconductor manufacturing. Additionally, PM Chinh urged both government bodies and foreign companies to assist Vietnam in its production of semiconductors. This request for training schemes and promotion of semiconductor production is not new, as PM Chinh had previously expressed this need during a meeting with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in July. During that meeting, Yellen stated that the United States was willing to support Vietnam in producing semiconductors, aligning with Chinh’s view that expanding semiconductor production is crucial for Vietnam’s growth.
