Safaricom commits to Ethiopia’s digital transformation agenda Source: Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia (STE) hinted at its commitment to public sector partnership by signing a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) with part-owner Sumitomo Corporation, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the government’s Ministry of Innovation and Technology. The MoC will see the foursome create working groups to drive the state’s Digital Ethiopia 2025 transformation agenda forward. STE hopes the collaboration will “ accelerate ” innovation by leveraging the partners’ technological expertise. Specifically, the MoC commits the signatories to establish four joint working groups with the ambition of supporting new regulatory frameworks, and laying the groundwork for job creation and innovation. The working groups will focus on multi-sector business ecosystems, digital interaction, ecosystems for digital financial services, infrastructure development, and job creation and capacity building — representing the five pillars of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 agenda.
