PM Hun Sen says Covid-19 drives digital transformation in Cambodia

The Covid -19 pandemic has driven digital transformation in Cambodia, said Prime Minister Hun Sen, calling for the strengthening of internet services nationwide to allow users access the booming digital platforms. Speaking at a graduation ceremony at the Cambodian University for Specialties in Phnom Penh, the Prime Minister said the pandemic has led to a remarkable surge in digital transformation in e-commerce, mobile payment and online learning. “Some 3 million students were on online learning during the pandemic and now, trade transactions are made via mobile phone, not in cash on hand anymore,” the premier said. Meanwhile, Chea Chanto, National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) Governor, said recently that online transaction has been on a trend of rapid growth thanks to the Internet and mobile usage. “Since the Covid-19 crisis, online trading has grown rapidly and electronic payment methods have become increasingly popular across the country,” he said at an annual meeting to review NBC’s work achievements in 2022 and set objectives for 2023 held last week.
