A New Dawn for Islamic Boarding Schools in Indonesia Embracing the winds of change, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) in Indonesia has embarked on a mission to modernize Islamic boarding schools, locally known as pesantren . The ministry has made a significant stride in this direction by donating 1,080 laptops to foster digital transformation within these traditional religious institutions. Unfolding the Digital Transformation The Acting Director of Diniyah and Pondok Pesantren at Kemenag, Waryono Abdul Ghafur, underscored the essence of this initiative. He stressed the need for pesantren to adapt to the rapidly advancing era, cautioning that failure to do so could lead to these institutions being sidelined by societal progress. The laptops, distributed between June and July 2023, reached 270 pesantren spanning across all 34 provinces of Indonesia.
