On 22nd March 2023, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the new International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area Office & Innovation Centre in India. This marks a major milestone in India’s long-standing relationship with ITU, which is the United Nations’ specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs). Bharat 6G Vision Document and 6G R&D Test Bed During the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister also unveiled the Bharat 6G Vision Document and launched the 6G R&D Test Bed. This initiative is expected to usher in new energy in the digital sector of India and provide solutions and innovations for the Global South. The initiative will also create new opportunities for India’s innovators, industries and startups and strengthen cooperation and collaboration in the IT sector of South Asian countries. ‘Call Before You Dig’ App In addition to the Bharat 6G Vision Document and 6G R&D Test Bed, the Prime Minister launched the ‘Call before you dig’ App. The app is designed to help prevent accidents during excavation work by allowing people to check the location of underground utility lines before digging.
