Government and civil society stakeholders at soiree to felicitate IAF fellows As countries navigate multiple challenges, advancing Govtech and public systems innovation will assume increasing importance At the 2019 UN Sustainable Development Goals Summit a global call for a ‘Decade of Action’ was launched to fast track the achievement of the 2015 sustainable development goals. UN members outlined six points of action focusing on areas which had witnessed slow progress globally from sustainable and just economies and sustainable food systems to securing the global environment commons. However, the onset of Covid19 pandemic proved to be a significant hurdle with a resultant increase in poverty and economic uncertainty. Governments today are grappling with multiple crises such as poverty, inflation, unemployment and irreversible climate change. There is a growing realization that governments cannot afford a business-as-usual mindset, especially relevant for the Asia-Pacific region (with leaders such as India and China) which hosts two-thirds of the world’s population and on whom SDG progress would primarily rely on.
