Hain Celestial Group sees growth in brand investment

Source: Hain Celestial Group, Inc. LAKE SUCCESS, NY. — Recognizing that the Hain Celestial Group’s brand building investment historically has been below the industry average, Wendy P. Davidson, the company’s new president and chief executive officer, is committed to correcting the situation. “I was a bit surprised (since) joining the company that some of our brands haven’t been on air in over a year, and we haven’t been in a position to be able to keep them top of mind with the consumer,” she said during a Feb. 7 conference call to discuss second-quarter results. Ms. Davidson took over as CEO a few weeks earlier from Mark L. Schiller , who transitioned to non-executive director on the company’s board. She emphasized that earlier supply chain issues limited investment in some of the company’s brands, but with those issues mostly resolved the investment will restart. Ms. Davidson also intends to explore the potential of each of Hain Celestial’s brands. “(If) you look at our business today, we have some wonderful regional and local gems that … are No. 1 or No. 2 in their categories in their region,” she said. “They may only stay local or regional but we do […]

Taco Bell’s breakfast sales soar. It can thank Pete Davidson

Taco Bell’s breakfast sales soar. It can thank Pete Davidson

New York CNN — Breakfast at Taco Bell has been saved — and the chain has Pete Davidson to thank. Sales of Taco Bell’s breakfast burritos and egg-stuffed quesadillas jumped 9% in the fourth quarter of last year, executives at its parent company Yum Brands said in an earnings call Wednesday, attributing the growth to the comedian’s appearance in its ads. Overall, that helped bolster Taco Bell’s US sales, which jumped 14%, beating analyst expectations. In October, Taco Bell hired the former “Saturday Night Live” star to spearhead a new ad campaign for its breakfast menu. The cheeky ads show Davidson apologizing for the chain’s past breakfast creations, like the Naked Egg Taco, and told customers it would just stick to the basics. “We honestly over-innovated in breakfast,” Sean Tresvant, Taco Bell’s chief brand officer, told CNN last year. “When you look at today’s consumer and the [fast-food] breakfast business, it’s about familiarity and it’s about comfort.” Breakfast is becoming more of a bright spot for Taco Bell since it was brought back in 2021 following a brief pandemic-induced pause. Taco Bell’s offerings have long been overshadowed by its more established competitors, notably McDonald’s (MCD) . Breakfast makes up […]

Data Shows Medicaid Expansion is Good for Business

Data Shows Medicaid Expansion is Good for Business

Courtesy In 2015, I led the effort to pass Medicaid expansion in Montana because our state needed a new path forward. As a business owner, I know how expensive healthcare is for businesses and how important it is to have healthy employees. At the time, I also served on the board of my local hospital and knew the challenges of providing healthcare to people without insurance. Montana’s hospitals were awash in uncompensated costs. The results of Medicaid expansion have exceeded my expectations. I hear stories about how it helps people. To me, data is king, and study after study shows an incredible return on investment. Ultimately, Medicaid expansion became the largest, most focused, and most successful economic development plan in Montana’s history. Wyoming has the opportunity to see the results Montana has seen. Let’s dig into the numbers. Since its passage, Montana has seen an increase in workforce participation between 6 and 9% within the expansion population. Healthy people show up to work consistently, get and keep better-paying jobs, and are less reliant on government programs. Montana’s expansion enrollees only stay in the program for an average of 2.1 years because the health benefits and the cost savings improve […]

Apple: The Story Behind Its New Ad Offerings To Retailers, Restaurants, Hotels, Other Location-Based Businesses

Taking a bite out of digital search and advertising, Apple maps its new strategy with Apple Business … [+] AFP via Getty Images The tool that Apple quietly rolled out just last month, Apple Business Connect , resets the digital advertising chess board, even if it’s not top of mind with most digital ad executives. Whether you are a CMO marketing a nationwide chain with multiple outlets or a standalone small business hoping to increase your visibility and sales, you’ll have to think about integrating this new, or rather renewed, tool. Ostensibly, its messaging whispers, is there to “help people find your small business across Apple.” But it’s as much aimed at national big businesses as it is as any small ones. Just as Apple over the last few years has made its walled garden more impermeable than ever , as it increased its ability to segregate data only it could collect, it has built a dataset that is unsurpassed by that of any other company in the world. This newest phase of skirting other search platforms and cozying up to nationwide and small businesses, brick-and-mortar ones that want to be featured with more differentiation in its Maps, shifts […]

Nintendo says it’s not planning Switch price cuts as its console business ‘enters uncharted territory’

Nintendo says it’s not planning Switch price cuts as its console business ‘enters uncharted territory’

Nintendo has said it’s not currently planning to cut Switch hardware or software prices in a bid to help it navigate “uncharted territory” in its console business. The company announced this week that Switch shipments had reached 122.55 million units as of December 2022, a feat only bettered by its Nintendo DS handheld (154.02 million) and Sony ’s PlayStation 2 (155 million). However, Nintendo also said it now expects Switch hardware sales for the current fiscal year ending in March to total 18 million (down from 23 million units a year earlier and 28.8 million the year before that). Given the downward trend as Switch prepares to enter its seventh year on the market in March, during a financial results briefing this week Nintendo was asked what its vision for the future lifecycle of the console is. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – release date trailer In his response, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa admitted it would be tough to continue selling the console at previous levels, but that price cuts aren’t a solution it’s currently considering. ”We believe that we are now entering uncharted territory within our dedicated game console business,” he said (translated by VGC […]

Buy the Next Household Name in Tech for a $100,000 Opportunity

Buy the Next Household Name in Tech for a $100,000 Opportunity

Editor’s Note: For more than 40 years now, I’ve been investing in small- and mid-cap stocks. So, when I heard that my InvestorPlace colleague Luke Lango was going to reveal a breakthrough technology that can pinpoint small-cap stocks that could soar more than 10X this year alone, I had to share his article on how to find them. Check it out below. One of the reasons we focus on small caps is because it is a lot easier for a small-cap stock to rise 10X than it is for a mid- or large-cap stock to rise 10X. That is, a lot more companies go from being worth $200 million to being worth $2 billion than from being worth $20 billion to $200 billion. The former journey happens all the time. The latter journey rarely does. This is especially true when bear markets turn into bull markets. That last time this happened was in 2020, when more than 20 stocks rose 1,000% in a year. Almost all were small-cap stocks, and a majority were micro-cap stocks (worth less than $200 million). Back in 2009, when that bear market turned into a bull market, 16 stocks rose more than 1,000% in […]

A big opportunity for Kemi Badenoch

A big opportunity for Kemi Badenoch

Critics might have dismissed Rishi Sunak’s reshuffle as little more than a rearranging of the Whitehall deckchairs , but the Prime Minister believes that it will help the Government better deliver on its priorities. Indeed, he used the opportunity created by the need to appoint a new Conservative Party chairman – now Greg Hands – to launch a broader rationalisation of several government departments. The changes have the virtue of making some logical sense. The former Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has been dismantled , with responsibility for energy security and net zero handed to Grant Shapps. It might be thought that these two ambitions are in conflict – with the embrace of green technologies leaving the UK vulnerable to swings in international energy prices – but at least this policy area will be the sole responsibility of a single Cabinet minister. A new department focused on science, innovation and technology, led by former culture secretary Michelle Donelan, also has some promise. Proponents of the change believe that government efforts in these areas have suffered from being insufficiently joined up, though Ms Donelan will have to guard against the temptation to pick winners. Lucy Frazer, meanwhile, […]
