Attack campaign uses PHP-based infostealer to target Facebook business accounts

Attack campaign uses PHP-based infostealer to target Facebook business accounts

Over the past year, a group of attackers has targeted Facebook business account owners by spreading information stealing malware through malicious Google ads or fake Facebook profiles. The infection chain uses DLL sideloading via legitimate apps, as well as self-contained executable files written in various programming languages such as Rust, Python, and PHP. “We have seen SYS01stealer attacking critical government infrastructure employees, manufacturing companies, and other industries," researchers from security firm Morphisec said in a new report . "The threat actors behind the campaign are targeting Facebook business accounts by using Google ads and fake Facebook profiles that promote things like games, adult content, and cracked software, etc. to lure victims into downloading a malicious file. The attack is designed to steal sensitive information, including login data, cookies, and Facebook ad and business account information." This campaign has also been reported in the past by researchers from Zscaler, who attributed it to DUCKTAIL , a Vietnam-based hacker group that similarly specializes in infiltrating Facebook business accounts. However, the Morphisec researchers believe this attribution is wrong. The DUCKTAIL attacks, which have been going on since 2021, seem to be more targeted and sophisticated with the end goal of abusing the […]

How a framework for corporate political responsibility can enhance business social and environmental sustainability

How a framework for corporate political responsibility can enhance business social and environmental sustainability

Getty Images Christopher Marquis is a Forbes.com contributor who writes about how companies are creating a more resilient and sustainable capitalism. As companies face increasing public and internal calls for action on environmental and societal crises, more corporate leaders are launching or expanding practices to enhance their impact and chart a path for long-term business success. But their words and actions sometimes don’t align with their political contributions and lobbying efforts, an issue that came under the spotlight in the wake of the divisive 2020 election and Jan. 6 Capitol attacks. One backdrop for this corporate discord is the current era of ever-growing corporate political spending, which continues to set records in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling , and a pay-to-play system where high-dollar donors influence policy decisions that may benefit their bottom line but harm the planet or society at large. Amid the ever-widening gap between the ultrawealthy and frontline workers who lag in income levels and well-being, more people are looking to work for and do business with companies that share their values — and some corporate leaders are looking for new ways to align their political influence approaches and actions with […]

Xiaomi CEO says EV business moving quicker than expected, production set for first half 2024

After over six months of virtually zero mention of the status of its Xiaomi Automobile brand, the CEO of Xiaomi Corporation has shared a progress update that “exceeds expectations.” Despite previous licensing issues in China, Xiaomi Automobile now appears on track for EV production next year, and there are some images circulating around the internet that might hint to the smartphone giant’s first EV design. Xiaomi Corp. is better known as a Chinese electronics company based on an Internet of Things (IoT) platform – currently specializing in the manufacturing of smartphones, mobile apps, laptops, and home appliances. In March of 2021, however, we reported that Xiaomi had shared definitive plans to manufacture its own brand of EVs aimed at the mass market in China. By September, the corporation had officially registered Xiaomi Automotiv e as an EV company, but was still searching for an experienced partner in EV manufacturing to help it transition from building smartphones to building entire cars. By late 2021, Xiaomi Automotive signed a contract to establish its entire automotive business in the suburb of Yizhuang in Beijing. The footprint would include its headquarters , R&D, and EV manufacturing constructed in two phases. Xiaomi co-founder Lei […]

Ongoing malware campaign targeting small business routers

Ongoing malware campaign targeting small business routers

Illustration: Annelise Capossela/Axios Researchers have uncovered an ongoing, monthslong malware campaign that’s targeting and stealing data from pharmaceutical, IT services and consulting firms through their internet routers. Driving the news: Researchers at Lumen Technologies released a blog post Monday detailing the malware campaign, dubbed HiatusRAT, which started in July and has already affected at least 100 businesses across Europe, North America and Latin America. The attackers are targeting end-of-life DrayTek Vigor router models 2960 and 3900, which are popular with small to midsized businesses and allow users to remotely connect to corporate networks. As of mid-February, roughly 4,100 machines were still vulnerable to the attack, according to the researchers. The big picture: Internet routers have always been a ripe target of hackers given their insecure designs and the amount of data that flows through them. The risk jumped during the pandemic as workers relied more heavily on their at-home routers to connect to corporate networks. Details: Researchers believe hackers are seizing the routers as part of a long-term espionage and data exfiltration operation, although it remains unclear who is behind the campaign. The HiatusRAT malware intercepts any data that passes through its systems and sends it to the hackers. […]
