Manufacturers Use Low-Code Software to Improve Operations and Reduce AI Risks

Low-code app development in manufacturing The move toward low-code and no-code software in industry has gained a lot of traction in the past few years for several reasons. Most notably in that it helps manufacturing domain experts — not IT specialists — develop apps to help optimize production processes and guide new workers through complex procedures. This move to extend low-code software beyond the IT realm, where it is better known and widely used, represents a big change for the technology. As Ray Kok, CEO at Mendix (Siemens’ low-code software business) explained: “We’ve extended the reach of Mendix so that it goes beyond enterprise IT. If you look at the heritage of Mendix, it really started in enterprise IT to close the gap between business and IT in terms of capacity. Then, we decided that, given all the IT/OT (operations technology) convergence going on that it would be nice to also be able to develop applications that can run on the shop floor. So now, you can build apps to deploy very close to a production line or wherever that application might be relevant.” Read more of the interview with Kok explaining why low-code software is no longer just […]

E-governance board introduces blueprint for digital transformation

Plan proposes the establishment of several institutions to strengthen Nepal’s digital infrastructure. Shutterstock Aarati Ray In a push towards digital transformation, Nepal’s E-governance Board, under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, introduced the ‘E-Governance Blueprint’ on Tuesday. E-Governance, or electronic governance, uses information and communication technologies (ICTs) like the internet, mobile computing, and networks to improve government and public sector services. Experts say if public input is valued and implemented well, the blueprint could pave the way for a paperless government. It promises digital interactions and a stronger connection between the state, private sector, and citizens. “By reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies, it could usher in a new era of technology-driven governance,” says Chiranjibi Adhikari, vice-president of the Federation of Computer Association Nepal and CEO of One Cover Private Limited. The blueprint was initiated as per Clause 7 of the Electronic Governance Commission (Formation and Operation) Order, 2079. The first meeting of the Electronic Governance Commission, chaired by the Prime Minister on April 30, 2023, mandated the development of the blueprint. Following this, on September 2, 2024, the E-Governance Board formed a Draft Revision Committee, consisting of representatives from key government agencies, including the Ministry of Communications […]

Vietnam calls for digital transformation

Vietnam calls for digital transformation

Flag of Vietnam Vietnam is making giant steps toward wholesale digital transformation, with a chief of the ruling party calling for lawmakers to integrate emerging technologies into key sectors of the economy. Party General Secretary To Lam of the ruling CPV disclosed in a speech to members of the National Assembly that digital transformation is within reach for the Southeast Asian country. Lam shared his views during a group debate in the National Assembly seeking to inject life into Resolution No. 57, an ambitious plan by the ruling government to advance science and technology in the country. In late 2024, Vietnam unfurled Resolution No. 57, which was designed to put the country among the top 50 nations in digital transformation by 2030, signaling investment in infrastructure and training. Lam argued in favor of removing traditional institutional bottlenecks that characterize government-backed policies. According to Lam, the lowest-hanging fruit for parliament will be overhauling the bidding law to prioritize purchasing high-quality scientific equipment rather than focusing on the cheapest alternative. The party chief argues that prioritizing the cheap options will turn Vietnam into a “dumping ground” for obsolete technologies, which will delay the country’s technological ambitions. On the floor of parliament, […]
