Finding and sharing information becomes easier, but processes mimic old analogue methods. Stage 2 – Digitalisation this involves the […]

Unspooling the Red Tape: Agentic AI to Transform

In an era where digital transformation is table stakes in the private sector, AI stands out as a potent catalyst for modernising governance. Tech News 5 min read Follow: AI will help governments deliver their services in various ways. | Image: X Public Administration Routine government processes, long plagued by slow manual workflows and tedious paperwork, are often dismissed as bureaucratic red tape. However, these inefficiencies are more than just an inconvenience – they hamper timely decision-making, drain valuable resources, and impact citizens’ quality of life. In an era where digital transformation is table stakes in the private sector, artificial intelligence (AI) stands out as a potent catalyst for modernising governance. This bottleneck is perhaps the most pressing at the critical citizen-government interface: the office of the District Magistrate (DM). A revered position that is colloquially the panacea for power, DMs are responsible for a wide range of tasks, from enforcing local regulations to overseeing public welfare programs, often for populations over a million. Their workload includes stamping approvals, verifying compliance forms, aggregating data, and even conducting basic adjudications. Emirates Global Aluminium deploys hybrid cloud infrastructure to keep the metal flowing

A man and woman in tan uniforms stand in front of an aluminum plant. Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the world’s largest producer of premium aluminum, relies on critical infrastructure at its plants to keep the metal flowing 24 hours a day. So EGA adopted a hybrid cloud approach managed by Azure Arc to ensure operational efficiency. “We use the best of the Azure public cloud but we also brought the power of Azure back to our plants,” says Alexander Simon, EGA’s director of digital platforms and infrastructure. By adopting a hybrid infrastructure managed by Azure Arc, EGA was able to connect its on-premises datacenters with the cloud, optimizing production and supporting advanced AI and automation solutions. “When we compare our old setup of running AI compared to our new hybrid setup, we observed the drop in costs by more than 80%,” says Simon. “It’s massive.” He adds that the response time of AI in making decisions is now 13 times faster, and that by replicating and scaling their infrastructure, they can enable other countries to do aluminum smelting with EGA’s technology, potentially unlocking a new revenue stream for the company. “Here in Emirates Global Aluminium we are innovating aluminium […]
