Moving government to digital transformation

Moving government to digital transformation

– BitDepth#1494 Mark Lyndersay Last week’s column was described by a reader as "uncharitable." Which is correct, in a strict reading of its intent. It offered no gifts and cut no slack. The national effort to effect tangible digital transformation is critically important and merits continuous evaluation. While blunt assessment has its place, so too does unsolicited advice. The plans of the Ministry of Digital Transformation (MDT) are neither misguided nor inappropriate, but its ambitions so robustly exceed our lived reality that a clearer effort to harness strategy to more clearly stated tactics is needed. Leadership Hassel Bacchus is the Digital Transformation Minister, but the government is led by the Prime Minister and, in some shadow role, the prime minister-in-waiting. Bacchus is guided by collective consensus, so if the goals of the government must be set by the PM and the PM-i-w, the compass there has not been clearly set to a digital future. To be fair, digital is a tough conceptual sell for politicians. Launches of things on screens aren’t terribly exciting and digital ribbon cuttings are inevitably a farce. Greater state efficiency is also the nemesis of political patronage. It demands a more refined skillset from public […]

Organizations across industries are embracing digital tools and processes to stay competitive, improve operational efficiency, and deliver better customer experiences. Aligning business goals with technology is the cornerstone of a successful transformation. Crafting an effective strategy involves understanding the organization’s vision and the role technology plays in achieving that vision. Leaders must evaluate their current technological landscape, identify gaps, and determine which innovations will drive value. Without this alignment, digital transformation risks becoming a fragmented endeavor rather than a cohesive strategy for growth and resilience. The stakes are high, but so […]

CIO And CFO: Crafting a unified vision for digital success

CIO And CFO: Crafting a unified vision for digital success

Organizations that cultivate robust partnerships between their technology leaders and financial leaders are positioning themselves for significant success in their digital transformation journey. Gartner highlights that when chief information officers (CIOs) and chief financial officers (CFOs) collaborate effectively to assess and highlight the value of digital investments, organizations "are more than twice as likely to meet or exceed the expected outcomes from these investments." This partnership extends beyond the co-delivery of digital transformation projects or finance applications; it focuses on collaboratively creating a framework for measuring and communicating both the quantifiable and qualitative benefits of technology investments. Through collaboration in defining key performance indicators, evaluating risks and aligning digital initiatives with broader business strategy, CIOs and CFOs can ensure that technology investments deliver significant business value. However, achieving this level of CIO-CFO partnership presents distinct challenges, necessitating a shift in traditional roles and mindsets to fully realize the benefits of digital transformation. CIOs must collaborate closely with their chief experience officer counterparts, to ensure strategic alignment and drive user adoption of new technologies . However, this is just one important partnership—CIOs must also work strategically alongside the CFO to maximize the ROI from technology spending. Gartner reports that fewer […]
