The costly trap of incomplete digital upgrades

The costly trap of incomplete digital upgrades

Partial digital transformation creates more complexity than efficiency Half-measures don’t work. Businesses stuck between old-school legacy systems and modern digital solutions aren’t more efficient; they’re more tangled up in complexity. Legacy systems, those aging, rigid software platforms companies rely on, don’t play well with modern, cloud-based solutions . They were never designed for data flow, real-time updates, or AI-driven decision-making. So when businesses attempt to “go digital” by slapping a new interface onto outdated infrastructure, they don’t create efficiency; they create bottlenecks. Instead of reducing work, these disconnected systems demand more manual effort, and staff end up filling in the gaps by transferring data, cross-checking errors, and resolving inconsistencies. It’s not a small issue. McKinsey found that 70% of digital transformation initiatives fail to deliver intended results. That’s a staggering failure rate, and a big part of the problem is this middle ground, companies thinking they’ve modernized when, in reality, they’ve just created more layers of complexity. If the goal is efficiency and agility, half-measures won’t cut it. Businesses need to fully commit or risk falling into the trap of maintaining a system that’s more complicated, not more effective. Half-measures create the illusion of progress while increasing operational burdens […]

Four data and model quality challenges tied to generative AI

Four data and model quality challenges tied to generative AI

Diana Kearns-Manolatos United States Ahmed Alibage United States Generative artificial intelligence success asks leaders to do more than adopt technology. They need to seamlessly collaborate across data, engineering, and business teams throughout the software development life cycle. Building on our first article in this research series, “ How can organizations engineer quality software in the age of gen AI? ,” where we examined ways to overcome software development life cycle (SDLC) challenges, this piece identifies four engineering obstacles that organizations could address to help enhance data and model quality and fully unlock gen AI’s potential, whether for SDLC use cases or beyond. 1 From the need for clear data architecture to the management of uncontrolled model drift, these challenges underscore the importance of designing robust systems that address AI’s probabilistic nature while fostering trust and consistency. In some ways, AI and gen AI are raising the bar for quality data and changing the software engineering life cycle in ways that can enable the next generation of AI and gen AI–powered applications, such as AI agents. In this second installment, we investigate how organizations can build AI and data environments that address gen AI data integration, privacy, and model accuracy […]

Venture funds, science parks, and R&D: the Ministry of Digital Transformation outlines plans for expanding the Diia.City space

In 2025, the tax space of Dіia.City will be expanded to attract venture funds, science parks, R&D, and technical testing. This was announced by Vice Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science, and Technology, and Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, during an event marking the third anniversary of Dіia.City. “We have an ambition to create the best conditions for opening venture funds in Ukraine. That’s why we are working on the Dія.City Invest project. We need to think about how to attract investments for reconstruction, and we must create the right, easy conditions for venture investments. Currently, our biggest angel investor is the Innovation Development Fund, which is state-run, and that’s not right—there should be private venture funds. The Dіia.City Invest subproject will allow us to do that,” Fedorov said. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, work is also ongoing on the Science City project, which will integrate science parks into Dія.City and have a positive impact on the development of high-tech industries in the Ukrainian economy. “And of course, we are expanding the range of activities. We plan to propose changes to the law soon, adding R&D and technical testing as activities. We see a large number […]
