SSA’s data pipelines under construction to feed digital transformation

Customer centric and data driven are front and center in the Social Security Administration’s soon-to-be released new IT strategic plan. While the concepts are not necessarily new to SSA, or for that matter any agency, SSA is trying to drive customer centricity and data driven decision making through all of its IT modernization initiatives that serve the public and frontline employees. Hyperoptic Accelerates Digital Transformation

Hyperoptic Accelerates Digital Transformation

Challenge Disparate processes and legacy systems were slowing down Hyperoptic’s growth plans. Hyperoptic, one of the ‘fastest ultrafast’ broadband service provider with ‘full’ fibre optic technology entered the UK broadband market in 2011 to deliver gigabit speeds and is now available across 57 UK towns and cities. With an ambitious growth plan to scale the network and increase its subscriber base, the company had been looking to move to a futuristic and scalable ERP platform. Due to the existing fragmented processes across legacy ERP systems, it was essential to unify and digitalise procurement, warehouse, and finance operations for real-time track and trace, enabling strategic business insights. Further, it was crucial to have full visibility of capex and opex in capital-intensive projects. Solution TCS designed a scalable ERP platform to transform Hyperoptic’s business operations. TCS assessed Hyperoptic’s strategic priorities and business needs and proposed a simulated and value-driven business case, embracing the SAP S/4HANA cloud version on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). TCS conducted design thinking workshops to develop best-in class solutions and drive the adoption of industry best practices. Leveraging the capabilities of TCS Innovation Lab, Hyperoptic was able to accelerate the development of advanced solutions to support its business […]

For Russia, Libya Is a Land of Opportunity

For Russia, Libya Is a Land of Opportunity

Aydar Rashidovich Aganin is one of Russia’s best Arabists. He has served in Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, and the United States. From 2007 to 2011, he ran Russia Today’s Arabic edition, which is today one of the most influential news outlets in the entire Arab world. He was one of Vladimir Putin’s close advisors on the Middle East in the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Policy Planning Department. As of last month, he is the Russian ambassador to Libya. Putin’s man in Tripoli is there for good reason. At a time when Russia needs all hands on deck as it wages its war in Ukraine, the decision to dispatch one of Russia’s best and brightest regional experts to Libya—a country that the West evidently considers to be a backwater—is telling. While Western diplomats continue to chatter kalam fadi , or empty talk, about “elections” or a “ constitutional settlement ” or other vague promises, Russia has an opportunity. Aganin’s appointment is a sign that Russia plans to take it, and the West had better watch out. As the world watches the war in Ukraine, Russia is probing the rest of the world for weak spots. While it is true that Russia is […]

‘Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’: How one college professor is leaning into AI and ChatGPT

While artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT have some people worried about the implications it could have on education, Weber State associate professor Alex Lawrence is helping prepare students for a world with AI by embracing it in his classroom. (Weber State University) Estimated read time: 4-5 minutes Editor’s note: This is part of an ongoing series looking at the rise of artificial intelligence technology tools such as ChatGPT, the opportunities and risks they pose and what impacts they could have on various aspects of our daily lives. OGDEN — Weber State University associate professor Alex Lawrence has taught students about artificial intelligence and business for years, but he’s never seen anything quite like the recent rise of AI systems like OpenAI’s Chat GPT. ChatGPT is part of a new generation of AI systems that can converse, generate readable text on demand and even produce novel images and video based on what it’s learned from a vast database of digital books, online writings and other media, according to the Associated Press. "This is the first time, though, that I think it really has become accessible and available to, you know, students and business owners and business people in general in […]

Is There Now An Opportunity In Lear Corporation (NYSE:LEA)?

Is There Now An Opportunity In Lear Corporation (NYSE:LEA)?

Source: Shutterstock Lear Corporation ( NYSE:LEA ), is not the largest company out there, but it saw a decent share price growth in the teens level on the NYSE over the last few months. With many analysts covering the mid-cap stock, we may expect any price-sensitive announcements have already been factored into the stock’s share price. But what if there is still an opportunity to buy? Let’s examine Lear’s valuation and outlook in more detail to determine if there’s still a bargain opportunity. What’s The Opportunity In Lear? The stock seems fairly valued at the moment according to my valuation model. It’s trading around 14% below my intrinsic value, which means if you buy Lear today, you’d be paying a fair price for it. And if you believe the company’s true value is $159.59, then there isn’t much room for the share price grow beyond what it’s currently trading. Although, there may be an opportunity to buy in the future. This is because Lear’s beta (a measure of share price volatility) is high, meaning its price movements will be exaggerated relative to the rest of the market. If the market is bearish, the company’s shares will likely fall by […]

Community View | Opportunity is knocking

Community View | Opportunity is knocking

When I moved to Kingman 42 years ago I joined the men’s softball league. At that time this league played its games in the parking lot of the Mohave County Fairgrounds facility. Fortunately for Kingman, the city council and community leaders had a vision for the future and invested in a major project to benefit Kingman and its residents. That project was Centennial Park. Although I’m sure there were naysayers who felt it was a waste of money or the money was needed for other projects, the council had the foresight to approve this massive project. They acquired the initial 30 acres (and later 10 more acres were added), then went ahead to build what has become the centerpiece of recreational activities for the residents of Kingman. This project not only has improved the quality of life for our residents, it has also made Kingman more attractive to businesses, young professionals and families looking to relocate. Due to that commitment 40-plus years ago we have enjoyed the use of a quality swimming pool, basketball, tennis, racquetball and pickleball courts. In addition there are soccer fields and little league diamonds for our children, as well as running paths, playgrounds and […]

AI should not be viewed as threat but as opportunity to enhance quality of legal practice: SC judge Hima Kohli

Photo used for representational purpose only. iStock New Delhi, February 12 Artificial intelligence (AI) should not be viewed as a threat, but as an opportunity to enhance the quality of legal practice, Supreme Court judge Hima Kohli has said, terming it is a "game-changer" in the legal field that has the potential to revolutionise the way lawyers work. Justice Kohli, however, flagged ethical concerns about the "accountability, transparency and protection of rights of parties", which may crop up with the use of AI in the legal field. She said it is undeniable that technology has played a significant role in keeping the wheels of justice turning even during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond. "As we embrace technology, it is imperative that we are aware of the ethical concerns that come with the use of artificial intelligence in courts. The use of AI raises concerns about accountability, transparency and protection of rights of parties. It will be critical to establish clear guidelines and protocols to ensure that justice is dispensed equitably to all parties," the apex court judge said at a function organised by the ICICI bank here on Saturday. Speaking on the topic of "Artificial Intelligence […]
