Net-Zero: How can businesses take advantage of the economic opportunity of the 21st century?

Net-Zero: How can businesses take advantage of the economic opportunity of the 21st century?

Initially, it may have seemed like the net-zero agenda could be off to a shaky start this year, certainly on the UK policy front, after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak failed to give the climate crisis a mention in his top five priorities for 2023 . However, it wasn’t long before Conservative MP, Chris Skidmore’s Mission Zero Independent Review of Net-Zero report – which labelled net-zero as the “economic opportunity of the 21 st century” – hit the headlines to remind government ministers, businesses and our wider society of the value and urgent need to scale up on climate action. Skidmore has urged government leaders to grasp the “historic opportunity” that net-zero can bring, pointing out that the UK is currently falling behind on some targets and that inconsistent and unambitious policies have resulted in missed opportunities for many businesses and households. Any further delay on climate action, he warns, will risk damaging the UK’s already precarious economic prospects and stifle key growth opportunities. The findings of this review stand in stark contrast to those net-zero sceptics across government and certain media outlets who last year tried to argue that net-zero policies could increase the financial burden on UK citizens […]

Tesla Has $1 Trillion Opportunity In This Segment, Says Ark — And Elon Musk May Be On The Move Already

Some of these applications will blow people’s minds when revealed, the billionaire said on the call. These could include drones or last-mile delivery robots, she added. Is There Now An Opportunity In HireQuest, Inc. (NASDAQ:HQI)?

Source: Shutterstock While HireQuest, Inc. ( NASDAQ:HQI ) might not be the most widely known stock at the moment, it led the NASDAQCM gainers with a relatively large price hike in the past couple of weeks. Less-covered, small caps sees more of an opportunity for mispricing due to the lack of information available to the public, which can be a good thing. So, could the stock still be trading at a low price relative to its actual value? Let’s take a look at HireQuest’s outlook and value based on the most recent financial data to see if the opportunity still exists. Is HireQuest Still Cheap? The share price seems sensible at the moment according to my price multiple model, where I compare the company’s price-to-earnings ratio to the industry average. I’ve used the price-to-earnings ratio in this instance because there’s not enough visibility to forecast its cash flows. The stock’s ratio of 25.62x is currently trading slightly above its industry peers’ ratio of 21.08x, which means if you buy HireQuest today, you’d be paying a relatively sensible price for it. And if you believe that HireQuest should be trading at this level in the long run, then there should […]

Dearth of Wild Mushrooms Becomes an Opportunity for Farmers

Dearth of Wild Mushrooms Becomes an Opportunity for Farmers

Dorothy Basemera Otim picks wild mushrooms at her compound in Kampala, Uganda. BUSHENYI, UGANDA — Dorothy Basemera Otim loves a hot bowl of wild mushroom gravy. The retired news editor and television personality says for as long as she can remember, she has looked forward to the annual season when suddenly mushrooms spring out of the ground. But lately, that has been rare and unpredictable. “In the last three years mushrooms have come twice and in different seasons,” she says, as she bends over to pluck some. Otim thinks wild mushrooms have become rarer because not many parts of the half-acre plot she lives on lie undisturbed long enough to create the right conditions for them to grow. Like many Ugandans in urban areas, she now grows her own vegetables about three times a year, which means the ground is continually turned. The only place mushrooms appear in is the small corner under a mango tree where the dark shadow prevents vegetables from growing. The clearing of natural forests to create space for agriculture and human settlement has led to a steep decline in wild mushrooms, which used to be a cheap source of nutrients and were used as […]

Q: Can you reflect on a moment from your life that really shaped who you are today? What about this moment brought about the greatest impact on your career? A: As a child of Indian immigrants, I internalized education as the ticket to achieving success, believing those who did not attain it were fully responsible for their struggles. I attended three Ivy League universities, but never once learned about the legacies of racialized trauma still perpetuated by institutions, including schools, through policies and practices steeped in white supremacy. Counterpoint: Declining in-state admissions signify less opportunity for Vermonters

Counterpoint: Declining in-state admissions signify less opportunity for Vermonters

Vermont sits in the middle of the U.S. states when it comes to income, according to the World Population Review . So, why isn’t UVM accessible for Vermonters? While there has been a genuine decline in numbers of Vermonters graduating from high school since 2008, the 80% of students in the Vermont State Colleges System are in-state, according to a Sept. 28, 2015 article from the Burlington Free Press . In contrast, only about one-fourth of the UVM undergraduate population is from Vermont, according to data from College Simply . The same data shows only about 13% of students are considered low income. Clearly, the issue isn’t Vermont—it’s the lack of accessibility to UVM. It would be in UVM’s best interest to admit more in-state students. Having a high in-state population at universities is great for a number of reasons. First, when there are more in-state students, it shows that there is a clear liking and want for students to stay in the state they grew up in for some of the more formative years of their lives. It also demonstrates University support and encouragement towards its young citizens to take the opportunity that’s right in front of them […]
