IBM channel boss relishes opportunity to grow ecosystem

IBM’s UK and Ireland channel lead is excited by the prospect of making a difference in the role and helping the vendor increase its partner business IBM is looking for significant channel growth, both in terms of partner numbers and the business generated by those that work with the vendor. Targets of doubling the channel base in three years and tripling new logos in a similar timeframe don’t seem to faze IBM’s recently installed vice-president of ecosystem UK and Ireland, Alison Say. She stepped into the role six months ago, moving from elsewhere within Big Blue. Her time at IBM spans 13 years in different roles, a lot of which have been partner facing, including running the ecosystem on the storage side of the business. Say said there are certain points in your career where you think, “That’s my job”, and this was one of them. “Ecosystem is kind of in my DNA … I’ve understood the value of the ecosystem from the get-go,” she said. “This is perfect for me … the jobs I’ve done before rounded out how I understand the company, so I was really excited to have the opportunity to do this job.” Say joined […]

In Tumult, Opportunity: Our Hopes (and Fears) for the Future of Giving

We’re all better off when we’re all better off. (Illustration by Stuart McReath) We suspect no one will ever look back on the 2020s as boring. This decade started with a tectonic reckoning sparked by a global pandemic that revealed the deep inequities in the United States. This was followed by the police murder of George Floyd, a tipping point that revitalized the racial justice movement. Meanwhile, in the same year, an unprecedented number of billion-dollar natural disasters (22) struck the United States, while climate change and political instability continued to wreak havoc worldwide. These events affected every part of society—including how Americans give. As a result, donors have been compelled to revisit and revise some long-standing practices that have kept philanthropy from delivering on its full promise to people and communities. Change efforts already underway in 2020 accelerated and spread. New questions and provocations pushed us all to reconsider the role of giving. While there had been a meaningful but relatively small movement toward equity in philanthropy, many more were convinced through the larger racial justice movement to consider equity—or the lack thereof—in every aspect of the sector. Casey's Personalizes the Future With Digital Transformation

Casey’s Personalizes the Future With Digital Transformation

ANKENY, Iowa — As with any anniversary milestone in the convenience store channel, chains will find themselves asking, "What’s next?" With the commemoration of its 50th anniversary in 2018, Casey’s General Stores Inc., the third-largest convenience store operator and the fifth-largest pizza chain in the United States, reflected on its first 50 years in business and questioned what it would take to be successful for the next 50 years. The answer was to be a bigger, bolder, more contemporary version of itself. While it had multiple factors working in its favor, such as a high store count, great products and famous pizza, the brand did not have a well-established digital footprint. "Guests told us that they wanted us to make it easy to order pizza, so they wanted a mobile app. They told us they wanted a loyalty program like other restaurant chains. So, building the roadmap was pretty easy: listen to our guests and give them exactly what they want," Art Sebastian, Casey’s vice president of digital experience, recently told Convenience Store News . Digital would be the first expression of the contemporary Casey’s. Evaluating its tech stack, the company had what Sebastian calls "fragmented technology" — white-label […]
