People watched as Gov. Tim Walz signed a bill making Juneteenth a state holiday on Friday, Feb. 3 at the Minnesota Capitol. Earlier this month, Black community leaders and lawmakers packed the governor’s reception room. After years of seeing their bills hit a wall at the Capitol, they looked on as Gov. Tim Walz signed into law proposals to outlaw discrimination based on a person’s hair and make Juneteenth — the day the last enslaved people in the U.S. were emancipated — a state holiday. For many, it was a long-awaited step. And just an introduction of what the next few months could hold. “This is no landing space. This is a launching place,” Reverend Alfred Babington-Johnson, president of the Stairstep Foundation, said. “This is a journey just beginning.” MPR News is Member Supported What does that mean? Citypark stadium a gateway to opportunity
The soccer-specific stadium seats 22,500 and is part of a 31-acre development. St. Louis City SC lived up to its name with the construction of its $458 million campus, which ensures the team’s entire footprint lies with St. Louis’ Downtown West neighborhood. The project, much of which was built during the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, includes the club’s soccer-specific stadium, as well as a training facility. “The fact that we play, train and all of our staff will work in the city is, for lack of a better term, very on brand and authentic to everything we’re trying to do,” said St. Louis City Chief Revenue Officer Dennis Moore. The 31-acre development is anchored by Citypark, a 22,500-seat soccer-specific stadium designed by HOK and Snow Kreilich Architects that features an open and transparent design that provides fans inside with vistas of St. Louis landmarks and those outside a glimpse of the pitch. St. Louis-based health care services provider Centene initially purchased naming rights for an undisclosed amount. Last fall, however, the company reversed course in a move that Moore attributed to the company’s leadership changes in 2022. While the team is interested in bringing on a new […]

Is There An Opportunity With Farfetch Limited’s (NYSE:FTCH) 48% Undervaluation?
Source: Shutterstock Today we will run through one way of estimating the intrinsic value of Farfetch Limited ( NYSE:FTCH ) by projecting its future cash flows and then discounting them to today’s value. One way to achieve this is by employing the Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) model. Believe it or not, it’s not too difficult to follow, as you’ll see from our example! We generally believe that a company’s value is the present value of all of the cash it will generate in the future. However, a DCF is just one valuation metric among many, and it is not without flaws. Anyone interested in learning a bit more about intrinsic value should have a read of the Simply Wall St analysis model . Step By Step Through The Calculation We use what is known as a 2-stage model, which simply means we have two different periods of growth rates for the company’s cash flows. Generally the first stage is higher growth, and the second stage is a lower growth phase. To start off with, we need to estimate the next ten years of cash flows. Where possible we use analyst estimates, but when these aren’t available we extrapolate the […]

Twitter is stumbling. Some ex-employees are launching rivals
Are Musk’s Twitter actions a speed bump for Tesla? New York CNN — After Sarah Oh lost her job as a human rights advisor at Twitter late last year in the first round of layoffs following Elon Musk’s chaotic acquisition of the company, she decided to join a friend in building a rival service. With Gabor Cselle, who previously worked at Twitter and Google, she launched T2 , currently available in beta. Like Twitter, it offers a social feed of posts with 280-character limits. But the key selling point, according to Oh, is its focus on safety. “We really do want to create an experience that allows people to share what they want to share without fearing risk of things like abuse and harassment, and we feel like we’re really well positioned to deliver on that,” Oh told CNN. More than half of Twitter’s top 1,000 advertisers stopped spending on platform, data show In the months since Musk completed his takeover, a small but growing number of services have launched or gained traction by appealing to users who are uncomfortable with the billionaire’s decisions to slash Twitter’s staff , rethink content moderation policies and reinstate numerous incendiary accounts that […]
Spring 2023 AEF Plugfest Offers Valuable Opportunity for Ag Equipment Manufacturers to Test Product Capability
As precision farming technology continues to grow in importance for the ag industry, so do the semi-annual Plugfest events organized by the Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation (AEF) . Held every spring and fall, alternatively in the United States and in Europe, AEF Plugfests bring together representatives from dozens of ag equipment manufacturers to test the compatibility of their product offerings against each other. AEM is sponsoring the 2023 Spring Plugfest set for March 8-10 in conjunction with Commodity Classic at the Orange County Convention Center West Concourse in Orlando, Florida. Plugfest registration automatically includes admittance to the Commodity Classic show. Interested in participating in the next event? The Spring 2023 AEF Plugfest is still accepting registrations for participants and visitors. In addition to bringing together engineers to assess tractor-implement compatibility between a variety of different brands (so as to ensure there are no problems or glitches for consumers trying to match the products up in the field), Plugfests also offer opportunities for networking between industry professionals. Real-time adjustments are often made by Plugfest participants to ensure product compatibility, while other situations require more work back at the company to complete any necessary changes. “It’s really amazing to see agricultural […]
Moriarty has an opportunity to put data at the center of her community safety efforts
Commentary The FBI recently established the National Incident-Based Reporting System, which requires states to provide more detailed and nuanced information about their local communities. This will make national trends easier to analyze Mary Moriarty’s election as Hennepin County Attorney is a chance to reinvigorate criminal justice reform in our largest county after decades of paralysis — and not just because of her background as a defense attorney. She will arrive in office at a key moment in the history of criminal justice reform because of the remarkable number of people using data in new and interesting ways to make communities safer. Many discussions around the need for criminal justice reform emerge from data, revealing, for instance, a drastic increase in U.S. prison populations that began in the 1970s. The data places this issue beyond debate with a single graph. The stark data has supported bipartisan reform efforts to lower the prison population. Journalists have found powerful ways to use this growing appreciation of data. About ten years ago , the Washington Post began collecting data around police-involved shootings, which has grown into the most rigorous and comprehensive dataset of police shootings in the country, revealing the FBI’s count was […]

Will modest fashion become a mainstream retail opportunity?
Photos: Nordstrom/Henna & Hijabs American Dream, the mega entertainment and retail complex in East Rutherford, NJ, announced plans to open The Address , billed as “the world’s first modest fashion department store” for Muslims, Orthodox Jews and others requiring or seeking cover-up styles. The 55,000-square-foot space will sell “the world’s most sought-after modest brands” and feature weekly events, fashion shows and personal styling services. “We know the modest trend has seen a global boom in mainstream fashion in recent years,” said American Dream CEO Don Ghermezian, in a press release. “This is a movement, and these savvy shoppers remain underserved by brick-and-mortar stores.” Modest garments are usually defined by higher necklines, longer hemlines and sleeves, and looser fits, and are often worn for religious reasons. Some branches of Christianity and Orthodox Judaism subscribe to a way of dressing that is not revealing, but modest fashion is inextricably linked with the Islamic religion. The fashion trend erupted after Dolce & Gabbana released a collection of hijabs and abayas (ankle-length robes) in 2016 targeting Muslim shoppers in the Middle East, followed by similar collections from other fashion houses. Nike, H&M, Mango, ASOS, Gap, DKNY and Uniqlo have also put out modest […]
