Qualcomm Technologies Inc. today unveiled a new platform designed to empower developers and enterprises to harness real-time information and data insights so they can accelerate their digital transformation programs. The Qualcomm Aware Platform seeks to address the issue wherein ecosystem fragmentation and system design complexity often prevents “internet of things” deployments from meeting their full potential. Qualcomm Aware combines silicon and an extensive ecosystem of hardware and software partners with a developer-friendly cloud framework to offer services for managing assets that require critical, accurate and time-sensitive decision-making, according to the company. The platform provides ubiquitous global connectivity, intelligently optimizing and fusing location technologies with sensor alerts, critical device management and control features. The combination is said to provide a new baseline for IoT and assist enterprises in driving operational efficiencies. Critical use cases that can be served by Aware include cold chain distribution, utility asset monitoring, cargo shipment tracking and warehouse and inventory management. The Aware service rests upon three key pillars: technology leadership, enablement of an expansive ecosystem of hardware and software partners, and application programming interface-first architecture and developer-friendly tools that enable interoperability with partner clouds and leading enterprise software tools. Harmonization of digital transformation regulations crucial: Ministry

Harmonization of digital transformation regulations crucial: Ministry

Illustration—There is a need to harmonize digital transformation-related regulations created by the central and regional governments to avoid overlapping regulations, the Law and Human Rights Ministry has said. (ANTARA/Pixabay/FR) Sentences within the law should not be ambiguous to prevent multiple interpretations Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Law and Human Rights Ministry has underlined the importance of the harmonization of digital transformation-related regulations created by the central and regional governments to avoid overlapping regulations. Regulations issued by regional governments should be aligned with the regulations created by the central government, ministry official Ferry Gunawan said during the "Mapping Indonesia’s Digital Infrastructure Challenges" event, which was streamed online on Tuesday. He did not deny that there is disharmony between the regulations created by the regional governments and the regulations issued by ministries or institutions at the central government level. This disharmony is one of the causes behind over-regulation, he opined. In addition to vertical harmonization, harmonization should also be undertaken in relation to regulation content, division of authorities, and technical aspects. Moreover, the central and regional governments should involve related parties, such as associations and communities, when creating regulations, he said. "This is done so that we know where we will bring […]

America’s productivity engine is sputtering. Fixing it is a $10 trillion opportunity

America’s productivity engine is sputtering. Fixing it is a $10 trillion opportunity

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Since 2005, productivity growth has been lackluster, averaging 1.4% a year, compared to the post-World War II average of 2.2%. That is a problem. Increasing productivity–economic output per unit of input–maintains U.S. competitiveness and improves our quality of life. It is also essential to meet challenges like inflation, debt loads, entitlements, and the energy transition. Regaining historical rates of productivity growth could generate a total of $10 trillion for U.S. GDP by 2030, or $15,200 per U.S. household that year. It won’t be easy–but productivity is growing fast in some sectors and geographies. Since 2007, the information sector has grown at 5.5% annually. North Dakota’s economy has grown at nearly 3.5% and Washington’s at 2.3%. We need to improve productivity more broadly. To get the U.S. economic engine humming, we need to overcome four challenges. Workforce shortages and skills gaps There are two separate but linked workforce challenges. One is the lack of workers. U.S. workforce participation rate has fallen to 62.3% , down from 67% in the late 1990s. Only part of this is due to an aging population: More than 5 million Americans are not in the workforce but say they want […]
