Rohrer grows hay baling business through Engler Program

Carter Rohrer, junior at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln from Hickman, wasn’t always sure that a four-year university was right for him. By the time he was a senior in high school, he was already focused on operating his own hay baling business and juggling multiple large-scale clients on top of classes. Going to a four-year college while continuing to expand his business didn’t seem feasible — until his father heard about Nebraska U’s Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program . “My father asked if I’d heard about the Engler Program, and I hadn’t. He thought I might be interested and told me to look into it,” Rohrer said. “It was the day before their scholarship app was due, so I applied and ended up getting accepted.” Headquartered in the Dinsdale Learning Commons, Engler is an entrepreneurial program where students incubate business ideas, learn from experienced professionals, and take courses to hone their business acumen and focus their ideas. The program is in its 10th year and boasts more than 230 alumni living, working and growing businesses in Nebraska. How Your Stories Of Failure Create Better Business Success

How Your Stories Of Failure Create Better Business Success

No one really wants to fail. Admitting that you called it wrong, disclosing that you couldn’t make it work and announcing layoffs and closures isn’t how anyone planned their business journey. And yet failure happens every day, and it happens to almost every entrepreneur. But what if, instead of failure meaning defeat and hopelessness, it could mean better business success? How your stories of failure create better business success getty David Robson is an award-winning science writer specialising in the extremes of the human brain, body and behaviour, and he understands how failure can be channelled into success. The clue is in how you document and tell your story, and therefore how you frame the role failure plays in your life. "Spinning our memories into a well-told life narrative and viewing our future as an extension of this story, can help us achieve our aspirations for self-improvement,” he explained. Robson has written about such topics as a features editor for New Scientist and senior journalist for BBC Future. His writing has appeared in the Guardian, Men’s Health and the Atlantic, and in 2022 he won Mental Health Story of the Year at the MJA Annual Awards. David’s second book […]

Argentina must uphold human rights protections in business activities even amid economic crisis: UN experts

Argentina must uphold human rights protections in business activities even amid economic crisis: UN experts

GENEVA / BUENOS AIRES (28 February 2023) – Even amidst a macroeconomic crisis, Argentina has an obligation to ensure respect for human rights in the context of business activities, UN experts said today. “Argentine authorities must ensure human rights protection in all business activities, especially at a time when these are viewed as a potential solution to the country’s economic problems,” the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights said in a statement at the end of an official visit to the country. The experts warned that failures in this respect would mean that Argentina was not fulfilling its obligations under the international human rights treaties it has ratified. “Argentina must not forget that people, communities and the environment need to come first. Strengthening the economy by causing irreparable damage to peoples’ health and biodiversity is not a viable way forward,” said Pichamon Yeophantong, chairperson of the Working Group. “Argentina has numerous constitutional human rights protections, has ratified a large number of relevant international conventions and, in general, has adequate laws and regulations,” the experts said. “However, we have identified a significant gap in the implementation and enforcement of legal and regulatory frameworks across the board,” they said.
