Grazing Opportunity at Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is accepting proposals for cattle grazing on parts of Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge. Under the agreement, cattle will be rotated at specific intervals through multiple pastures. More than 1,600 of the Refuge’s 23,000 acres will be grazed in 2023 to improve conditions for migratory birds and other ground-nesting birds in the refuge’s grassland and wetland habitats. According to Refuge Manager Gregg Knutsen, these and other management activities “mimic the historical disturbances that the tallgrass prairie of western Minnesota evolved with.” The conservation grazing opportunity is scheduled to begin in May of 2023, and has the potential to last through August of 2025. Proposals are due March 20th, 2023. For more information, Knutsen can be reached 218-686-4329, or click the link here.
