NicoElNino Snowflake (NYSE: SNOW ) is a leading data warehouse provider, which is rated with 4.5 stars out of 5, according to G2 Reviews . This is higher than AWS Redshift which has just 4.3 stars out of 5. Snowflake’s platform breaks down "data silos" across organizations and multiple clouds, which enables insights to be unlocked through advanced analytics and AI. Therefore, it should be no surprise that Snowflake is poised to benefit from the growth in multiple industries including the Hybrid cloud , AI and of course "Big Data". The Big Data industry alone is forecast to grow at an 11% compounded annual growth rate [CAGR] and reach a value of over $273 billion by 2026. In the fourth quarter of FY23, the company reported solid financial results as it beat revenue growth forecasts. However, due to slowing growth rates and tepid guidance, SNOW stock price fell by ~7% in after-market trading. This compounds on top of Snowflake’s share price decline of over 60% since November 2021. I personally believe this is a market overreaction due to the aforementioned industry tailwinds, its high customer retention, and its large amount of contracted revenue. In this post, I’m going to […]

Can technology clean up the shrimp farming business?
Water pollution is threatening the livelihood of Debabrata Khuntia By Priti Gupta in Mumbai & Ben Morris in London Business reporters For generations the family of Debabrata Khuntia made a living by fishing in the Bay of Bengal and the rivers and canals of Purba Medinipur in West Bengal. He remembers being able to catch 10 tonnes of fish a year, some of which he would keep and the rest he would sell in the market. But those days are gone. There are few fish and Debabrata now makes a living growing tomatoes and brinjal. He is in no doubt what is to blame. "Excessive shrimp farming." Many farmers have shifted to shrimp farming because the money is better, he says. But that involves building shrimp ponds, feeding the shrimp and treating them with antibiotics. At the end of the growing cycle – when the shrimp are ready for market – the water is flushed into the river untreated which, Debabrata says, has caused pollution. "The water turns black and smells," he says. The poor quality of the water has even hit his vegetable crop. Shrimp farming has also been blamed for social and environmental problems elsewhere in the […]

Changpeng Zhao, CEO of Binance, speaks at the Delta Summit, Malta’s official Blockchain and Digital Innovation event promoting cryptocurrency, in St Julian’s, Malta October 4, 2018. Darrin Zammit Lupi | Reuters WASHINGTON — A bipartisan group of senators asked Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange and once-competitor to bankrupt crypto giant FTX, for detailed information on its business operations amid accusations of illegal practices. Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., and Roger Marshall, R-Kan., requested a slew of documents on company finances, compliance and risk management practices from Binance and its U.S. affiliate, Binance.US, in a letter dated Wednesday. “In the years since Binance’s founding, the company has faced increasingly disturbing allegations regarding the legality of its operations,” the senators wrote in a letter addressed to Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao and Binance.US CEO Brian Shroder. The Justice Department began a criminal investigation into Binance and Zhao in 2018 — the year after the company was launched — amid concerns the exchange defied U.S. anti-money laundering and sanctions laws. The agency has […]
Ford creates new Latitude AI business to develop hands-free, automated driving tech
Ford unveiled Thursday a new business unit called Latitude AI, designed to develop automated driving tech for future vehicles. The division will initially focus on a hands-free, eyes-off driver assist system to improve safety and the driver experience. In 2017, Ford injected $1 billion into Argo AI, a self-driving startup, along with Volkswagen , in a move to advance autonomous vehicles and strengthen their leadership in the industry. Initial plans included combining Ford’s virtual driver system team with the robotics talent and expertise of Argo AI to develop and introduce a virtual driver system for Ford’s SAE Level 4 self-driving vehicles by 2021. However, after Argo failed to attract investors over the years and Ford posted a whopping $2.7 billion (pretax) loss on its investment in the third quarter of 2022, Ford said it was abandoning the company. Ford shifted its focus from full self-driving L4 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) being developed by Argo AI to internally developing L2 and L3 tech, like Ford’s BlueCruise . CEO Jim Farley said, “There’s a huge opportunity right now for Ford to give time – the most valuable commodity in modern life – back to millions of customers” as he announced […]
Denver-based insurance tech company lays off 98 people
Friday Health Plans, a Denver-based health insurance tech company that’s raised more than $300 million in capital, cut 98 employees in companywide-layoffs. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice issued to the state Wednesday, the layoffs will take effect April 30. The given reason for the cuts was "a loss of business." The terminated employees were concentrated at Friday’s headquarters in Denver, as well as its largest office in Alamosa. Various roles were cut, including 24 care representatives, 10 medical department specialists, nine claims analysts, six nurse coordinators and four marketing and sales coordinators, among other jobs. Friday, founded in Denver eight years ago, grew to offer health plans in 185 counties across seven states and serve more than 330,000 members as of May 2022. However, the company announced late last year that it would end its coverage in Texas and New Mexico in 2023. At the time, Friday said it would work toward offering health plans in those states again in 2024. The company now offers plans in Colorado, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina and Oklahoma. It was uncertain Thursday how the end of its operations in Texas and New Mexico affected its membership base. […]
How a Business Coach Can Help You Lean Into Your Strengths and Become Successful
Find someone to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, ultimately leading to your personal success. Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. One of the best pieces of advice I can give to fellow entrepreneurs is to get a business coach . I should know; I’ve had the same one for 12 years. He’s helped me through some of the stickiest challenges I’ve ever faced in my business, and I credit much of my success to his support. Beyond helping me through the tough times, he’s also helped me to identify and lean into my strengths. Here’s how a good business coach should help you do the same. They speak the truth When you’re an entrepreneur , especially one who gains a lot of traction quickly, you’ll find yourself surrounded by many "yes people." They’re usually well-intentioned, eager to please you and say the right thing so you’ll view them positively. Often, they’re also your employees, and the power of a paycheck means they won’t want to risk offending or irritating you. This makes sense, and these people shouldn’t be blamed for their staunchly supportive behavior. Even so, you’ll sink if these folks are the only ones […]

Facebook revamps controversial content moderation process for VIPs
New York CNN — Facebook-parent Meta on Friday announced a revamp of its “cross-check” moderation system after facing criticism for giving VIPs special treatment by applying different review processes for VIP posts versus those from regular users. But Meta stopped short of adopting all the recommended changes that had previously been put forward by its own Oversight Board, including a suggestion to publicly identify which high-profile accounts qualify for the program. The cross-check program came under fire in November 2021 after a report from the Wall Street Journal indicated that the system shielded some VIP users — such as politicians, celebrities, journalists and Meta business partners like advertisers — from the company’s normal content moderation process, in some cases allowing them to post rule-violating content without consequences. As of 2020, the program had ballooned to include 5.8 million users, the Journal reported. Meta’s Oversight Board said in the wake of the report that Facebook had failed to provide it with crucial details about the system. At the time, Meta said that criticism of the system was fair, but that cross-check was created in order to improve the accuracy of moderation on content that “could require more understanding.” Meta’s Oversight […]
