ANALYSIS: Innovative Law Schools Answer Call for Business Skills
As many attorneys seek alternative roles in business and legal-adjacent careers, law schools have responded by implementing courses and programs that provide their students with business-related skills that can be used in both a law firm or legal department setting—not to mention anywhere else in the corporate world. As part of its Law School Innovation Program , Bloomberg Law is highlighting several law schools that are setting the pace when it comes to teaching business skills in a legal education setting. Bloomberg Law’s 2022 Law School Preparedness Survey data supports the idea that there is a need for attorneys to learn more business skills prior to entering the workforce. Practicing attorney respondents reported that they wish they would have learned about common business-related skills before they started practicing. These results can be seen as a call for law schools to teach business—and the business of law—while simultaneously teaching the practice of law. In our inaugural Law School Innovation Program, our team of evaluators identified the top-scoring law school programs answering that call and teaching, in innovative ways, those high-in-demand business skills. Why I’m fighting to protect the American dream for small business
GOP Congress will ‘give hope’ to small business owners: Rep. Roger Williams 00:00 00:0006:13GO LIVE Facebook Twitter Email Embed SpeedNormal Autoplay Small business owners are on the front lines of innovation and job creation. They account for over half of the payroll in our country and are mainstays of their communities. When these businesses are confident about their ability to prosper in the future, our country is moving in the right direction. Unfortunately, after two years of one-party rule, our small businesses are very concerned about the way our economy is moving . Whether it’s out-of-control inflation, broken supply chains, or labor shortages, Main Street continues to bear the brunt of President Biden’s economic crisis. However, there is hope on the horizon. Small Biz Boom: Despite tough economy, small businesses are growing post pandemic Despite a tough economy, a record number of small businesses have launched nationwide in the last two years. The people spoke in November and gave Republicans control of the House of Representatives to provide a vital check on the radical policies coming out of the Biden administration. Republicans have a proven track record of being the true champions of our nation’s job creators, and my […]
Business Leaders Need Smarter Strategies to Navigate Culture Wars
CEOs are getting caught in the crossfire of culture wars, especially involving ESG investing. Consultant Bruce Mehlman shares key internal and external strategies for business leaders to consider in this politicized environment. Culture wars are crashing the C-suite, and CEOs need to up their games. For over a decade, progressive activists have urged business leaders to speak out more on social and cultural issues, and many responded. This increased engagement emerged alongside accelerating ESG initiatives reacting to climate change, EU regulation, and geopolitical disruption. Over the past few years, conservative activists started punching back, objecting to what they consider political investing—aka “woke capitalism”—by unelected technocrats who are supposed to focus on maximizing shareholder value rather than signal virtue. CEOs are now caught in the crossfire. And in 2023, these challenges are only getting harder. A record 39 states now boast one-party rule, increasing the likelihood of straight-line partisan legislation at odds with states run by the other party. Congress is again narrowly divided, with both parties looking for populist credit for punishing ideological opposition among “the establishment.” The 2024 presidential campaign is fully underway, with GOP aspirants competing to be most “anti-woke.” The president’s very first veto is imminent […]

Hoteliers Say Business Travel Has Permanently Shifted
Some Urban Hotels Now Performing Better Midweek Than on Weekends Chartwell Hospitality’s Kevin Green speaks at a hotel roundtable in Memphis, Tennessee, hosted by Hotel News Now and the Pinkowski & Company. (Trevor Simpson) MEMPHIS, Tennessee — Shifts in business travel demand over the past few years have included trips that increasingly blend in leisure, as remote and hybrid work enable extended stays at hotels. Some hotel executives believe these shifts could be permanent. Hotel News Now, in partnership with Pinkowski & Company, convened a group of U.S. hotel industry executives for a roundtable about the state of the industry and the subject of change. Jerry Cataldo, president and CEO of Hostmark Hospitality Group, said once business travel began to come back in urban locations in April 2022, the patterns of travel differed from before. Some aspects of remote work remained, usually in a hybrid format. Employees with hybrid options typically choose Monday and Friday as their remote days, leaving Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as prime business days, Cataldo said. “There’s been a change in the corporate behavior because people coming in and doing business and having dinners and so forth — they gotta be there when the people […]
Microsoft brings an AI-powered Copilot to its business app suite
Image Credits: Jean-Luc Ichard / Getty Images Microsoft today introduced what it’s calling the “next generation” of AI product updates across its business apps portfolio. They touch on both Power Platform, Microsoft’s set of low-code tools for building apps and workflows, and Dynamics 365, the company’s suite of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) tools. In an interview with TechCrunch, Charles Lamanna, CVP of business apps and platform at Microsoft, described the updates as the logical next step on Microsoft’s automation journey. Powered by tech from AI startup OpenAI and built using the Azure OpenAI Service , Microsoft’s service that provides enterprise-tailored access to OpenAI’s API, the new capabilities follow the rollout of OpenAI text-generating AI models in Power Platform four years ago and the more recent debut of generative AI capabilities in Viva Sales, Microsoft’s seller experience app. “Over the last four years, we’ve been on a journey to bring generative AI and foundation models to the workplace,” Lamanna said via email, noting that Microsoft has a longstanding partnership with OpenAI to commercialize the vendor’s tech in Microsoft’s own products and through the Azure OpenAI Service. “And we’ve now reached the point where the tech […]
