At Shivaami, women lead the digital transformation process

Shivaami aims to help businesses in driving digital change in the post-pandemic world. Scores of women now shape that digital future. Chetana Chaudhari, CTO of Shivaami believes bringing women in technology can work wonders in an otherwise male-dominated field. When Punit Thakkar became an entrepreneur in 1997, he was clear he wanted to do something around the internet. However, the late 1990s was not really the internet age in India and few wanted to start an internet venture. “In 1997, not many talked about the internet, but I have been an internet enthusiast from the 1990s and I wanted to improve lives by harnessing the power of digital. I started a digital agency that was primarily doing web designing. I started with multimedia CD-ROMS and then moved to web designing since that was the need of the hour at that point,” says Thakkar. The business flourished, but Thakkar realised the need to evolve every 5-6 years, keeping in mind the path the IT industry traversed. “Every half a decade, we try to figure out if we are still relevant or are we outdated. We continuously look to reinvent and keep pace with the trend and in 2004, I started […]

China’s major coal-producing province accelerates digital transformation

At Chindata Group’s big-data industrial park in Lingqiu County of Datong City, hundreds of thousands of servers are running round-the-clock to support high-tech enterprises nationwide in such fields as AI, autonomous driving and quantum communication. With years of efforts, it has become the province’s pioneer in promoting the digital economy in an effort to achieve high-quality development. The city has built a total of 140,000 data center design racks and established a server capacity of up to 2 million units. Its computing output has become a new point of growth in a city which traditionally relied on fossil fuel resources. According to the annual session of the Shanxi Provincial People’s Congress, which concluded on Monday, the value of the province’s digital economy exceeded 500 billion yuan (about 74.6 billion U.S. dollars) by the end of 2022. Veeam survey finds ransomware blocks digital transformation

Veeam survey finds ransomware blocks digital transformation

Most IT leaders (83% ) think there’s an “availability gap” between how quickly they need systems to be recoverable and how soon that can be achieved. Meanwhile, 81% identify a “protection gap” between how much data they can afford to lose and how often data is protected. So, while most IT leaders are less than satisfied with levels of data protection , they are also battling ransomware attacks . In fact, most organisations questioned had suffered at least one attack in 2022, with many suffering multiple attempts to extort ransoms from them. Those are some of the findings of the Veeam Data protection trends report 2023 , which questioned 4,200 IT decision makers globally, including 349 in the UK and Ireland. The Veeam report gives a snapshot of data protection and backup, as well as the balance of physical and virtual servers, on-premise and in the cloud. The big picture background is that there is a near-even split between on-premise and cloud server locations, with 28% reporting use of physical servers in datacentres, 27% with virtual servers in datacentres, and 45% with cloud-hosted server instances. IT's Evolution: Chief Information Officers to Chief Growth Officers

IT’s Evolution: Chief Information Officers to Chief Growth Officers

In an era of shadow IT and business units having increased technical know-how, how IT is perceived matters. It says whether IT is invited to the table to discuss initiatives during the planning phase or afterwards to clean up the mess created and integrate what the business bought to the rest of the tech stack. Even more, it says whether IT, who often has the best understanding of "the art of the possible," is part of the digital transformation conversation . Given this, IT’s brand with the rest of the business and business leadership matters. So, what do CIOs think and how can they become brand builders? Establishing the Message for IT According to former CIO Joanna Young, “IT has a brand — known or unknown, deserved, or undeserved. IT leaders need to be thoughtful about their internal brand. Does it comport with the value they are or should be delivering?” Clearly, it is too easy for IT to be seen as separate from the real business. Or even worse as a utility. An effective IT organization demonstrates alignment for credibility and partnership. Everything starts, says Deb Gildersleeve, “with the rest of the business understanding that IT is in […]
