4 Trends All Small Business Owners Should Be Aware of in 2023

Here are four trends shaping the small business landscape to be aware of as you implement your plans throughout the year. Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. The beginning of a new year often comes with a laundry list of goals and to-dos, which can quickly become overwhelming if you try to tackle too much, too fast. I’ve always approached resolutions by setting short and long-term goals spanning the entirety of the year — after all, we have 12 months to accomplish our goals, and there’s a reason they’re not called January Resolutions. Now is an important time for business owners to reflect and set a course for the year ahead, but it’s easier than ever to get bogged down worrying about the challenges facing the economy . I would encourage all small business owners to tackle 2023 with a splash of empathy and realism. Don’t bury your head in the sand — be mindful of the economic headwinds we’re facing, but don’t let them monopolize your attention. Instead, devote your time and energy to the challenges and operations that do fall within your control. Here are four trends shaping the small business landscape to be aware […]

Gov. Kristi Noem blocks South Dakota from contracting certain foreign organizations

After knocking TikTok off of state devices in November, Gov. Kristi Noem is further restricting the South Dakota from doing business with what her office called "evil" foreign governments. On Friday, Noem signed an executive order that would bar the state from executing contracts with "prohibited entities," or any organization owned by a foreign government from China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia or Venezuela. Noem’s order also prohibits the state from purchasing information or communication technology from an organization owned by the aforementioned countries or considered unsafe for the state’s cybersecurity systems by connection to the banned entities. The Offshore Oil Business Is Gushing Again

The Offshore Oil Business Is Gushing Again

Rigs that haven’t been used in years are setting out to sea as demand for energy surges. ‘Everyone started drilling again.’ Transocean’s $1.2 billion Deepwater Titan, which will soon drill for oil in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Transocean The $1.2 billion Deepwater Titan sat idle in a Singaporean shipyard for five years, looking like an abandoned cruise ship with a derrick attached to its deck. Soon this vessel that spans nearly three football fields will depart for the deepest waters of the Gulf of Mexico, where its crew will be able to drill 8 miles below the seafloor in search of oil for Chevron Corp. The hunt for offshore petroleum is on again, fueled by a surge in global demand for energy, supply disruptions triggered by the war in Ukraine and crude prices that remain above prepandemic levels. Other giant rigs such as Titan that were dormant near the end of the last decade are also now operating in deep waters along the coast of Brazil, while rigs lacking propulsion are mining shallower waters in the Middle East after hitching rides to that part of the world on tugboats. Sen. David LaFountain: Heating relief the first act of business in Augusta

In the midst of Maine’s winter season, many people across our state are struggling to stay warm given the surge in home heating and energy costs. I heard from countless residents of our district about their needs, and am proud to say the Legislature delivered relief in a bipartisan manner. This was such an important bill for us to pass, and has set a hopeful tone for me as I start my term as your state senator. Gov. Janet Mills has signed into law L.D. 3 , the Emergency Winter Energy Relief Program. One of the biggest provisions in this measure will send $450 relief checks to over 800,000 Maine taxpayers. Individuals making less $100,000 and couples making less than $200,000 on their 2021 state tax returns will be eligible for relief. L.D. 3 includes critical funding for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), and emergency fuel assistance, both of which are administered by Community Action Agencies like Kennebec Valley Community Action Program. To learn if you’re eligible for these benefits, contact KVCAP at 207-622-4761. In addition, this package bolsters funding for the Emergency Housing Relief Fund to keep Mainers in their homes this winter. Learn more about the […]
