Though she might not be best known for her business acumen and entrepreneurial knowledge, it goes without saying that reality star Kim Kardashian knows a thing or two about running a successful empire. But not everyone is sold on Kardashian being the one to dole out advice. The star faced backlash on social media over the weekend for giving a speech at Harvard Business School. Kardashian visited HBS in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Friday with Skims co-founder Jens Grede to talk to students about the shapewear company for nearly two hours as a part of a direct-to-consumer seminar. ‘Collaborative, human approach’ key to digital transformation: Saudi DCO’s Deemah AlYahya

WEF 2023 AlYahya warned a WEF panel in Davos that too often, even in places where connectivity is available, issues of affordability prevent people from becoming involved in the digital economy DAVOS: Fostering collaboration and a human-centric approach in the digital economy is key to the sector’s future transformation, Deemah AlYahya, Saudi Arabia’s Digital Cooperation Organization secretary-general, has told a Davos panel. With so much of the global population still lacking internet access, AlYahya told the World Economic Forum panel on Tuesday that the world cannot afford to have a “digital divide between nations” and inequality between haves and have-nots. “Looking at the speed of the digital transformation and the rapid increase of the digital economy, which is expected to be 70 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030, if we don’t work together and cooperate now, we will miss out on a great opportunity,” she said. AlYahya warned that too often, even in places where connectivity is available, issues of affordability prevent people from becoming involved in the digital economy — an issue which she said cannot be solved by one nation, one government or the private sector alone. “We have to create the right methods […]

Freedom and opportunity are the Florida way

Freedom and opportunity are the Florida way

Affordability front and center as we assess challenges Florida House speaker Elections represent voters’ choice of direction. But whether voters get what they want depends on the leaders they elect. Leadership is everything. And leaders must address the unique challenges of the moment. Where have we come in terms of our direction and leadership and where are we headed to address the challenges of this moment? I believe we are always moving in one of two fundamental directions: toward greater freedom and the opportunity it brings or away from freedom, accepting the false promises of know-it-all elites who stand ready and willing to control every aspect of our lives. On almost any issue, you can see that choice of direction in what we could call the Florida Way versus the California Way. For example, during COVID, California decided that some businesses and workers were essential, while some were not. In Florida, we said everyone is essential. California’s masking of children with little risk from COVID damaged them both academically and psychologically. Florida quickly returned students to in-person learning. The California Way says parents have no business knowing what is taught to their children in school. Florida understands that parents […]

Even when opportunity is starling on our eyes

Even when opportunity is starling on our eyes

22.01.2023 LISTEN It can be so annoying informing those in need of something of the available solution to their quagmire only for them to turn you down on account of your personality. My dealing to the public has greatly availed me an ample opportunity to have clear understanding of the kind of people we have in the society and their perception towards life. Just like the usual attitude of many to blame those in leadership position for ineptitudes, even we the populace are not in any way different to what we are accusing those in leadership position of. I am right to say we are worst us and the only difference between the masses and those in leadership position is the opportunity. I have observed that many of us put the cart before the horse and this accounts for the weak society we found ourselves today. An average Nigerians are not ready and desire everything done for them free of charge. We want someone to use his finance, timing, energy to pursue our individual goal before we believe in the genuineness of such move. The just concluded INEC ad-hoc staff recruitment exercise where the successful applicants have been screened […]

Opportunity Now Colorado to provide funding for regional collaborations that strengthen talent development across the state. Governor Polis and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) recently announced a new grant program: Opportunity Now Colorado. The grant program is designed to help communities across Colorado create and expand innovative workforce and talent development initiatives. The program’s goal is to help connect more Coloradans with in-demand, high-skill, high-wage occupations. “Our administration is committed to creating opportunities for Coloradans to get the skills they need to build careers they love,” said Governor Polis. “We’re excited about the collaborative effort between the education and business communities, the opportunities that this new grant program will provide, and how the grants will help build our workforce, create jobs, and retain homegrown talent.” Across the state, employers are looking to hire the top talent that Colorado is known for, yet job openings have outpaced new hires. In June 2022, there were 208,000 job openings and 129,000 hires, a difference of nearly 38%. Opportunity Now Colorado, established by HB22-1350, was created to help Coloradans develop the skills and experience they need to apply for and secure these job opportunities. Durham developer files for bankruptcy – again

Durham developer files for bankruptcy – again

A real estate developer in Durham has filed for bankruptcy protection – again. Ramarama Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this month, listing both assets and liabilities as ranging between $1 million and $10 million. Ramarama, led by Mark Bullock, has filed for bankruptcy in the past. But it’s a new day this time around, says Ramarama’s attorney, Joseph Frost. “Past performance is not indicative of the future results and successes of Ramarama through this Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing,” he said in an email, adding that his client is “committed” to repaying its creditors in a way that maximizes the value of its two development projects in downtown Durham. Those projects, according to Frost, are on Ellis Road and Roxboro Street. Bullock has a history of investing in Durham properties. In 2018, he bought the former Harriet Tubman YWCA on Umstead Street. However, he failed to pay property taxes for the site, and nonprofit firm Reinvestment Partners purchased it with plans to build affordable housing. Multiple Durham properties are tied to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of liabilities included in the latest bankruptcy case, including addresses on Ellis Road, Roxboro Street and Ramseur Street. Durham records show […]
