Core Enterprise and Mainframe Digital Transformation: What We’re Seeing and What We’ve Learned Article 18-Jan-2023 Read time: 3 min Copied Jubock Ryu | Managing Director, Kyndryl Korea Just as roads, bridges, railways and ships move goods across the globe, technical infrastructure is necessary in the movement of data. Data, analysis and insight are the lifeblood of 21st century enterprises. They are the essential substances businesses need to thrive, compete and win in the face of intense competition and shifting headwinds. In a complex global economy that is more digitized than ever, that infrastructure must be efficient, reliable and secure. Success requires seizing and understanding the smallest units of information – real-time updates on production, distribution and logistics, feedback from partners, customer demands — and harnessing them to adjust tactics, set strategy and make immediate changes as needed. None of that can happen without resilient infrastructure – the hearts, lungs and nerves of enterprises – that drive the right information to key decision-makers to be catalyzed to solve critical business challenges and create growth opportunities. This is invisible work that is made possible by a complex web of systems and technical infrastructure operated by trusted experts who know how to […]

Unlocking Opportunity During The Energy Crisis

Unlocking Opportunity During The Energy Crisis

By Thomas Kiessling, CTO, Siemens Smart Infrastructure, and Stefan Niessen, Siemens Technology The current energy crisis is bringing out the sceptic in many of us. As the industry grapples with skyrocketing prices, unchanged demand for fossil fuels, and complicated incentive models – we mustn’t lose hope. There is a light at the end of this tunnel, which can be turned on with the flick of the commercial and industrial (C&I) solar switch. Siemens Smart Infrastructure To understand where we could be heading, we must reflect on where we are coming from. It’s easy to find gloomy sentiment around the energy crisis. One case in point is an article by Reuters , offering a cornucopia of challenges, threats by the industry to declare certain EU countries as non-competitive and concern about the state of manufacturing – in particular the base chemical industry – as manufacturers across continental Europe risk shutdown. The risk of companies leaving a region can be seen in two waves. The first is as a result of energy-induced marginal costs increases above viable limits. One such example is that of ammonia production, which has already left Germany. The second wave is more scattered and can happen with […]

Bass Performance Hall offers audience the opportunity to see Simba in a sensory-friendly setting

Bass Performance Hall will offer a special sensory-friendly performance of Disney’s "The Lion King" on Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. (Courtesy Bass Hall | Credit Joan Marcus for Disney) When Bass Performance Hall was scheduling its current Broadway at the Bass season, it was unclear if they would be able to fill the theater for a sensory-friendly performance of Disney’s “The Lion King.” But, within a month of opening tickets to the public, that performance was sold-out. It now has a waitlist of about 200 people. “It’s something that we’ve been interested in doing for a long time, but it takes a lot of pieces coming together to make it happen,” Dione Kennedy said. She is the president and CEO of Performing Arts Fort Worth, Inc. , which is the nonprofit that operates and manages Bass Performance Hall. At every performance, the venue has resources available to make shows more accessible to all patrons, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities, commonly referred to as IDDs . Guests can check out weighted lap pads and sensory bags that contain noise canceling headphones and fidget toys or utilize a designated quiet space. But the Jan. […]

Tourmaline Oil: A Buying Opportunity

Tourmaline Oil: A Buying Opportunity

grandriver Tourmaline Oil Corp . ( OTCPK:TRMLF ) announced on January 12, 2023 that it has revised its production target downward, from 545,000 boe/d to a range of 520,000-540,000 boe/d, and has also revised its capital budget upward due to higher inflation expectations. The market responded negatively to this news, causing the company’s share price to drop by more than 3%, although Tourmaline declared a C$2.00 per share special dividend. This negative sentiment is a continuation of the short-term bearish trend that has been ongoing since December 2022, during which the stock has declined by 19%. It is, therefore, a great time to review whether the business fundamentals have changed for Tourmaline. If the long-term outlook remains bullish, the recent share price weakness should be viewed as a buying opportunity; otherwise, shareholders should move on. Tourmaline overview Tourmaline is the largest natural gas producer in Canada, having produced 2,240.64 MMcf/d of natural gas and 108,457 bbl/d of crude oil condensate and NGLs in 3Q2022, with gas accounting for 77.5% of the total production. The company is also the fourth largest gas processing midstream operator in the country (Fig. 1). Fig. 1. A map showing the landholdings and main midstream […]

Seizing the nature investment opportunity

Seizing the nature investment opportunity

Climate Asset Management has just raised $650 million for its two natural capital investment strategies. Martin Berg , the chief investment officer of its Nature Based Carbon Strategy, explains its approach Environmental Finance : How have the COP15 biodiversity summit and the preceding climate talks changed the context for investing to protect biodiversity? Martin Berg Martin Berg : COP15 has helped elevate nature to a mainstream investment theme. I’ve never seen so much coverage of biodiversity loss and why it’s an important issue for investment. It has certainly changed the narrative. Over the last two years, we’ve seen much more attention given to nature, preceding the two recent summits. At COP26 in Glasgow, for example, the nexus between climate and nature started to become clear for many investors. They view the issue from two directions. Some see nature as an upcoming investment theme, like climate. Others look at the issue from the disclosure side. For example, French investors face disclosure requirements under Article 29 of France’s Energy Transition Law, while others are assessing how the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) might affect them. EF: Are there any specific elements of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) agreed at COP15 […]

How North Carolina Can Expand Opportunity

How North Carolina Can Expand Opportunity

John Hood Raleigh, NC – Having enacted major reforms of North Carolina’s tax code, regulatory system, budgeting process, transportation funding, and education system over the past dozen years, what should the General Assembly do next? Phil Berger wants to double down on the legislature’s impressive record of conservative policy innovation. “We must build on that success so future generations of North Carolinians can reach even greater heights,” Berger said after his reelection as Senate President Pro Tem on January 11. “We must provide them with the tools needed to determine their future — from a world-class education to finding a good-paying job in a career of their choice, or to the freedom and opportunity to open their own business.” After his own reelection as Speaker of the House, Tim Moore described a similar vision. “Some of you represent communities where the population is going gangbusters, but others represent areas that are not seeing so much growth,” he told his colleagues. “Some of our challenges, as we move forward this year and enact policies, we will do all we can to make sure that the North Carolina dream of growing and moving forward is one that is enjoyed by everyone […]
