The Impact Of Digital Transformation On Heavy Equipment Operations

The Impact Of Digital Transformation On Heavy Equipment Operations

Technology Until recently, construction and mining machinery manufacturers didn’t incorporate advanced software and cutting-edge technologies into their products. Today, digital solutions are taking these sectors by storm. From autonomous mining trucks to technology that can predict required maintenance, digitalisation is transforming heavy-duty equipment operations. Transitioning to Digital Solutions The shift toward digitalisation in heavy equipment operations is becoming impossible to ignore. In 2024, Case Construction Equipment — an international construction equipment manufacturer — became the first company to organise a sustainable product roadshow in the United Kingdom. The two-day event in England featured compact and large machinery, including excavators, wheel loaders and track loaders. Staff were present for demonstrations, and local equipment operators were allowed to test the all-electric lineup personally. They were also given opportunities to learn about environmental decarbonisation initiatives. This roadshow’s success is some of the latest proof that the heavy equipment landscape is changing. Battery-powered components, sensor-based systems and in-cab touchscreens aren’t just talk anymore. They’re becoming recognisable aspects of the industry. Operators, mechanics, surveyors and operating engineers have a vested interest in the success of such technologies, as their presence at Case Construction Equipment’s roadshow suggests. The Evolution of Heavy Equipment Operations Three key […]

Responding to Darzi at Digital Health Rewired: Securing mobile digital transformation

Responding to Darzi at Digital Health Rewired: Securing mobile digital transformation

DH Rewired Stand By Melloney Jewell, Director, Int’l Revenue Marketing, Imprivata As Digital Health Rewired one of the largest healthcare IT events in the UK calendar approaches, the hottest debate is likely to be around the Darzi Report , published in November 2024, and its ramifications for Trusts. The report highlights “low digital maturity” across the NHS and calls for a “major tilt towards technology to unlock productivity”, including digital systems for NHS staff working outside hospitals and using AI to transform care. Mobile technology can play a vital role in improving efficiency and productivity, but to effectively harness the power of mobile, we need to learn from the experiences of frontline clinicians. The Love-Hate State of Mobile Device Management The Darzi report notes that there is a strong perception among NHS staff that IT creates an additional burden. “It always seems to add to the workload of clinicians rather than releasing more time to care by simplifying the inevitable administrative tasks that arise,” Lord Darzi says. While the use of mobile technology, particularly shared mobile devices, brings many potential benefits and cost-savings, there are associated risks, like unauthorised access. This makes it essential to implement a mobile strategy […]

What CIOs need to secure beyond tech to successfully transform

What CIOs need to secure beyond tech to successfully transform

One thing that unites CIOs is that transformation is achieved not with pure technology, but by managing change across the enterprise. Credit: Shutterstock Digital transformation technologies alone don’t make digital transformation. CIOs know this well, even when they increase their IT investments. The Polytechnic University of Milan’s Startup Thinking and Digital Transformation Academy Observatories predict a 1.5% growth in ICT budgets specific to Italy, mostly in line with recent trends. And in the broader context of EMEA, IDC says digital transformation spend will exceed $1.2 billion in 2028, with a CAGR of nearly 16% over the 2024 to 2028 forecast period. AI and cloud are driving double-digit CAGR, but digital transformation isn’t limited to technology investments. Training, communication, and change management are the real enablers. Managing change and transformation Paolo Sicca, group CIO of manufacturing company Industria Grafica Eurostampa, is an example of how his role is evolving. “Introducing business intelligence required a great deal of change management work, because from a data use that wasn’t very sophisticated and organized, and very do-it-yourself, we moved to a consistent and verified data warehouse,” he says. The technical work of Sicca is typical of ICT in a distributed multinational. The products […]
