American Airlines Group Inc. cut almost 50,000 from its summer schedule as the carrier continues to restrain capacity growth amid an ongoing pilot shortage. The Fort Worth-based carrier reduced its schedule by 5% and will now fly 875,133 flights from May to September, according to aviation data company Cirium. American’s schedule includes 875,133 flights from May to September. The bulk of the cuts occur in June and July, when slashed 19,887 flights and 19,920 flights, respectively. American spokeswoman Andrea Koos said the adjustments to the summer schedule are "in line" with the carrier’s approach to network and schedule planning. American publishes a placeholder schedule 331 days in advance and then makes cuts closer in based on the schedule it intends to operate. “We are now publishing our final schedule approximately 100 days in advance, which is in line with how we adjusted our schedule in 2019 prior to the pandemic," Koos said.
