Huawei shines 5.5G spotlight on indoor digitalization

Sponsored by Partner Content Evolving 5G Advanced technologies received top billing at the recent Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF) in Istanbul, Türkiye, which was jointly hosted by Huawei, the GSMA and GTI. Under the tagline of “5.5G Leads Mobile AI Era”, attendees heard that more than 60 operators worldwide have now announced plans for commercial 5G Advanced deployment and that firm strides are being made towards rolling out much higher-capacity and lower-latency networks. “As IoT and AI bring business prosperity, we believe the basic uplink capability of a 5.5G network should be up to 20Mbps with 20ms latency and give downlink experiences of up to 10Gbps,” Eric Bao, President of Huawei’s Wireless Digital Indoor System (DIS) Product Line, told Light Reading at the MBBF event. “This is a big leap in performance compared with 5G.” Uplink capability is an important factor used to measure the quality of future networks, says Bao, adding that the drivers for higher uplink will be AI smartphones, humanoid robots, smart vehicles, as well as increased demand for mobile live broadcasting.
