AI and Digital Transformation Initiatives at BT Group

BT Group, the UK’s largest telecommunications and network provider, has been incorporating AI into its operations for several years. In 2019, Harmeen Mehta was appointed as the company’s Chief Digital and Innovation Officer to lead its digital transformation efforts. Mehta heads the Digital technology unit, which was established in April 2021. Her responsibilities include IT, digital innovation, business transformation, and the development of the firm’s data and product strategy, including the implementation of AI. She reports directly to Chief Executive Philip Jansen and is part of the Executive Committee. BT Group’s transformation initiatives aim to leverage its vast amount of data and apply AI techniques to develop new commercial offerings. This involves the digitalization and centralization of business workflows and the integration of data from the company’s nationwide network. To make data more accessible, the organization introduced a hub and spoke model and created the Group AI and Data Solutions unit.
