As technology companies continue to shed space and jobs across the U.S., Walmart Inc. has seized an opportunity to join the innovation district at Midtown’s Tech Square. The retail giant is taking a chunk of space at the Coda building for its Atlanta tech hub. Walmart (NYSE: WMT) has subleased nearly 21,000 square feet from San Francisco software company Autodesk, according to research from commercial real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield . By subleasing, companies can find space in attractive buildings at a discount to direct rents. Autodesk had two floors at Coda, occupying the 15th and 16th levels, according to a source familiar with the lease. Walmart is taking one of those floors and is beginning to move into the space. The deal was completed in November, says the Cushman & Wakefield report. A Walmart spokesperson confirmed Coda as the location for its “Global Tech Atlanta Hub.” The company declined to say how many people will work from the tower.
